Are you sticking to your New Year’s resolutions?

I do not know about you, but for me 2018 is going by FASSST! I mean, where did January go? And here I am assessing my performance during the first 12th of this year, which I have to admit has not been what I expected. Because I won’t to allow myself to slack again, I started researching about what can I do to keep me motivated and then I came across an eye opening Instagram post form the father of motivation- Mr. Tony Robbins. In case you are not familiar with him, Tony Robbins is a life and business coach who has trained a great array of entrepreneurs.

Research shows that 80% of people give up on their New Years resolution by the 2nd week of February!

“Happy New Years everyone! Research shows that 80% of people give up on their New Years resolution by the 2nd week of February! The reason? What most people call ‘resolutions’ are really just desires or fun things they wish would happen. The majority of people aren’t actually resolving anything within themselves.

What??!! 80% of us quit by the second week of February?! And an even scarier realization – I am part of that 80% as up until now, I have not started ACTIVELY pursuing my path.
But wait, there is more. Mr. Robbins went on to say:
“If you want to be a part of the few that do versus the many that talk, you need to be crystal clear— what specific result will you accomplish? What’s your WHY (reasons come first, answers come second)? How will you do it? What tools, strategies, or resources do you need to make it happen?”

And this key change in mindset is what I feel I have been missing: I need to redirect my thought process from WHAT to WHY. I realized that as long as I am not clear as to why I’m pursuing this goal that I’ve set for myself, I will continue to get derailed.
In short, I will share with you what I am sticking to based on M. Robbins recommendations:

• Pen it down- there is something magical about putting your goals in writing. It goes outside of you. Is the first step in the concrete creation of this particular goal. That way, the commitment becomes solid. You get to see it, not just think about it.

• Understand your why – in other words, be clear as to why exactly are you determined to pursue that specific goal. Having clarity of purpose will further help you realize what you will need to achieve it. Make sure you are defining your WHY with quality questions phrased in a positive manner to keep you motivated. (Modify your thinking from why am I restraining from eating chocolates? To Why eat those chocolates now and then feel miserable when I’ll be wearing a swim suit in the summer months?

• Enforce your strategy in concrete steps – set deadlines, compare metrics, quantify your performance to better evaluate if your current strategy is working out. Focus on results not emotions. If is not working out, do not give up, try another approach. Sometimes the smallest changes bring the biggest results.
I am ready to take 2018 by the horns. I am committed to achieving 3 concrete goals during this year, BECAUSE I want to show myself that I CAN! How about you?
